Here's What I Did To Stop My Extreme Hairfall

Treat hairfall problem permanently at home


Losing up to a hundred strands of hair in a day is okay but losing hundreds of strands multiple times in a day is insane. No matter if you are a man or a woman, we all simply love our hair, and watching them hair falling off every time you oil your hair, comb it, or simply move your fingers through your locks is disheartening and traumatizing, to say the least. 

Yes, hairs are an important part of our looks. If we have silky hairs, we feel blessed and confident just like that. But when you start to lose out on your hair severely that you begin to notice some bald spots or patches on your scalp, that's alarming.

October 2019, I was diagnosed with PCOD and hence followed a myriad of problems for me to tackle, both physically and emotionally. While was frightened to see a handful of hairs twisted on the comb multiple times in a day, my dermatologist was too cold to calm me down and recommend something that would actually work. "Oh, thanks to PCOD, hair fall simply follows," she said. She suggested me to "not take stress." The more you stress, the more hair you lose but the more hair I lose, the more I stress. I was caught in a vicious circle, screaming and crying internally. All of a sudden, everyone around me had turned into a doctor and recommended me what all I can do to tackle the issue. Sadly, I was not in a state to lend them an ear but figure out the solution to my problems backed by science and Ayurveda. Then began my journey to curing this hair fall. Here's everything I did to beat to fight away with my extreme hairfall -

1. Copper Charged Water

In ancient times, when people didn't have RO and purifiers, copper vessels were abundantly used to kill any harmful bacteria and enrich the water with copper. When water is stored in copper container, minerals get leached into it. This water balances the three doshas (Kapha, Vata, Pitta) in your body and aid in the proper functioning of your organs. That means, your body will be able to absorb the nutrients better and supply it to your scalp.

Fill your copper jug with normal drinking water and leave it overnight. Keep this mug aside your bed. When you wake up the next day, drink this first thing in the morning. Don't gulp down the water in a go, drink it sip by sip.

2. Eat Curry Leaves

Non-vegetarians be like - Stop eating my food's food (just kidding). 15 minutes after drinking your copper charged water, you need to chew 5 curry leaves. Curry leaves are a rich source of beta-carotene and proteins which reduce your hair fall and promote hair growth. They also contain amino acids and antioxidants that strengthen your hair follicles.

Ensure that you only consume fresh curry leaves and not the dried form that's available in the market. You can buy some curry leaves from your local market or get a curry leave plant installed in your home for ease of consumption. While consuming it, chew one leave at a time till it forms a paste, before gulping it down. Make sure you do not eat anything for the next 30 minutes after eating these curry leaves.

3. Onion juice Massage

Sounds gross, right? I know! But we know how beneficial onion is for hair. Onion has got high amounts of sulfur that support strong and thick hair. It nourishes the hair follicles to improve the shine and volume of your hair. To massage onion on your hair, you will have to extract the juice out of an onion and mix it with coconut oil for ease of application. Use fresh onion juice for the best results.

Now, here's the trick, extracting onion juice every single time you wash your hair can be tiresome (it was for me at least) and hence, it's better to invest in onion hair oil. I personally have been using onion oil from Mama Earth. It's amazing and 150 ml goes a long long way. You can buy it here if you want to.

4. Practise Balayam

Back in school days, we were taught to rub our nails during yoga sessions. Rubbing our nails increases the blood flow to the scalp which in turn strengthens your hair follicles and reduces hair fall.

Do Balayam at least for 5 minutes every day. Do it empty stomach or 2 hours after having your meal for the best results.

5. Take Amla Powder

Amla is a miracle fruit that is rich in vitamin c. It helps boosts our immunity, metabolism, eyesight, and hair growth. But the sad part is, Amla is not available round the year. So, here's the trick, I replaced Amla with Amla powder that I consumed every night 2 hours after my dinner. 

To drink your Amla Powder, mix 1 tablespoon of Amla Powder in a glass of water during your lunch time. Let it rest for a couple of hours. 2 hours after having your dinner, strain this water to remove any residue and then drink this juice, sip by sip.

Getting good quality amla powder in local stores is a challenge. So, I picked up this one from Patanjali and it worked well for me. 

One important thing I'd like to say is to have some patience. This will take 2 months to show you visible difference but stay consistent and stay positive.

Thankfully we all can order stuff now because finding these in nearby market is a bit difficult. Stay safe and recover well if you are too are having severe hair fall.
